Week-long Triple Lockdown from Monday in Trivandrum

TrivandrumLife>> Due to looming threat of community transmission, a triple lockdown has been announced in city Corporation limits on Sunday. The week-long triple lockdown will come into effect at 6 am on Monday (July 6).

DGP Loknath Behra said that all major roads will be completely closed during lockdown. Not a single vehicle will be allowed on road, he said.

Only hospitals, medical shops and shops selling essential items will be allowed to function in the city limits. All offices, including secretariat, will remain closed.

On Sunday alone, the district reported 27 Covid cases. Of this, 22 are local transmissions. Most of the infected persons have no travel history. Thiruvananthapuram district now has around 107 active cases of Covid 19. Of the total 285 cases reported so far, 173 have been cured. As many as five persons died due to Covid, making the district highest in fatal cases.

Police said in a statement that taxi services related to air and rail travel, emergency banking services like ATM, data centre operations, necessary staff for mobile services, hospitals, medical shops, truck movement, necessary media services, petrol pump, LPG, water, power and sanitation services were exempted from lockdown restrictions.

As per the order issued by district administration, shops selling essential items can function between 7am and 5pm. However, people are not allowed to go out and buy food and grocery items. People are adviced to contact emergency helpline number 112, 9497900112, 9497900121 etc. District administration is taking steps to ensure door delivery in essential cases.
