Positive cases drop following protest at Poonthura

July 12 I TrivandrumLife>> Resident of Poonthura, Manikyavilakam and Puthanpally areas which reported superspreading events were the highest in the daily reports being released by the health department in the last few days. However, things were different on Sunday. The number of Covid positive cases in the district fell from 121 on Friday to 69 and 40 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Incidentally, no testing was held in one of the major centres in Poonthura due to the protests by the local residents against health workers in the last two days. This was reflected in the daily reports. Sources in health department said that situation was back to normal on Sunday and tests resumed.


According to health officials, 80-140 tests were held in the area on a daily basis. In the recent series of tests conducted among 598 persons, around 119 were tested positive.


The protest by a section of residents had panicked health workers on Friday, who couldn’t return to the spot after residents launched massive protest. A team of officials led by DCP Divya Gopinath pacified by the residents on Friday evening. On Sunday, residents led by Fr Anthony Bevinson received health workers with floral tributes and bouquets. They also apologized for the unfortunate incident.
As the testing has resumed, the number of cases are set to rise in the coming days.
