Lockdown triggers unrest in families? Crimes on a rise in city

TrivandrumLife>> Lockdown and Covid crisis have given enough time for otherwise busy family members to spend some time together. However, capital city is witnessing an increase in crimes within families. Days after a man was killed by his son during a drunken brawl, another crime has happened at Vattiyoorkavu on Friday. A man committed sucide after hacking his wife at Thozhuvancode by around 7 am. The wife later succumbed to the injuries.

Police said that an alleged quarrel between the septuagenarian couple, Ponnan and Leela, ended in the unfortunate crime. Ponnan was a retired Additional Sub Inspector while Leela was a retired Head Constable. The couple has two children.

Former Ranji cricketer Jayamohan Thampi was recently found dead in his house at Manacaud and police later arrested his son Aswin for the crime. The death allegedly happened during a drunken brawl when Thampi suffered fatal injuries.

Last week, a gang, including a husband, was arrested by the Kadinamkulam police on an alleged gang rape of a 24-year-old woman.
