City woke up to report of a horrific crime on Friday morning. A 24-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped at Puthukurichi on Thursday night. The Kadinamkulam police have begun probe against a group of men, including her husband who is suspected to be an accomplice of the crime.
As per the oral complaint of the survivor, the woman and her one-year-old child were taken to a beach at Puthukurichi by her husband. Later he took them to his friend’s house nearby. There, the husband began consuming alcohol along with the friends. During this time, the inebriated gang forcefully fed her liquor, dragged her out of the house and raped her. Later the woman managed to escape the house with the kid and sought help of some passerby. The youth who helped her escape from the place alerted the police.
The police have begun investigation against the gang. The woman is under treatment at Chirainkeezhu taluk hospital. Meanwhile, Kearala Women’s commission took suo motu case into issue based on media reports. It has sought report from Thiruvananthapuram rural SP on this issue.
