July 23: TrivandrumLife>> The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has given approval for the request of Technopark to construct vehicular underpass for it. The NHAI has begun preparation of design for two underpasses for light motor vehicles. The tentative locations for the VUPs are at Kulathoor and in front of phase III campus of Technopark.
Around Rs 30 crores are expected for the construction of two vehicular underpasses and Technopark has agreed to bear the cost. Sources said that Technopark made the request so that it will provide easy access for vehicles in national highway to Technopark. Though Technopark had made several requests, it was delayed as NH has already completed most of the construction of the stretch from Kazhakoottam to Mukkola and also began works of Kazhakoottam flyover. For vehicles using the national highway, a U turn is possible only at the end of Kazhakoottam flyover near the CSI hospital junction. Similarly those coming from Kollam side too will find it difficult to reach Technopark. With the VUPs, this issue will be resolved.
In order to avoid further delay, the existing contractor KNR constructions will be given charge of construction of the two VUPs. The VUPs will only allow passage of light motor vehicles such as cars.
Currently NHAI has completed major works in Kazhakoottam-Mukkola portion. The second phase works from Mukkola to Karode is progressing.
