Former food safety commissioner and MD of Kerala Medical Service Society Navjot Singh Khosa has replaced K Gopalakrishnan as the collector of Thiruvananthapuram district. Gopalakrishnan has been transferred as Malappuram collector. This is part of a bureaucratic reshuffle announced by the state government on Wednesday.

Sources said that government had issues with Gopalakrishnan’s handling of Covid situations in the district for a while. Collector had to revise several of his orders following directions from the government. Opening of Aruvikkara dam without prior notice was the latest of all issues. Waterlogging caused by opening of shutters of the dam has created a controversary. Earlier, Gopalakrishnan had to revise orders such as imposing of restrictions in the district during the early stage of Covid 19. He also faced criticism for shifting people coming from other districts to city on institutional quarantine, which he had to revise after backlash.

2012 Kerala batch IAS officer, Khosa has served as collector of Kottayam, commissioner of food safety, MD of Kerala Medical Services Corporation and National Ayush Mission. The 36-year-old, hailing from Punjab, was part of Health minister’s team in Covid 19 prevention activities.

The 2013 batch IAS officer, Gopalakrishnan has served as Jalanidhi CEO and director of land revenue records. He was former assistant collector of Malappuram and sub collector of Kozhikode. He hails from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu.
