TrivandrumLife>> At a time when cyber harassment against women is a major topic of discussions, an orthodontist at Medical college Thiruvananthapuram was arrested for harassing his cousin by sending her morphed pictures in order to create trouble in her family life. Varkala-native Dr R Subu, 43, assistant professor at Orthodontics department, is the accused.
The complainant in the case is a 27-year-old woman residing under Ayiroor police station limits. As per the complaint, the woman’s close relatives, including husband’s father, received her morphed images, which eventually created a rift in her married life.
Jaseer Khan, 36, of Valicode near Nedumangad and Sreejith, 26, of Vengavila near Nedumangad too were arrested for helping the accused. The trio used a SIM card taken using a bogus address to send morphed lewd images of the woman to her husband’s father as well as her close relatives.
According to police, Subu’s plan was to drive the complainant away from her husband and her own family. The harassment has been going for the past two and a half years.
‘’The accused, who was obsessed with his cousin, planned to tarnish her character among her relatives. Due to the messages, her husband had demanded a divorce and moved out of the home. As her close relatives too disowned her, Subu stood by her as a guardian offering all support. Though the complaints were initially filed, there was no major breakthrough. Recently, her sister approached Fort police. In fact, Subu too had accompanied the sister and his statement too was recorded as a witness,” police said.
Police found out that the SIM card used by the harasser was taken in the address of a Vattappara-native. After realising that the youth in Vattappara was unaware of the SIM, police identified the person who sold the SIM and took Sreejith into custody. Sreejith had provided the SIM card to Jaseer Khan, who is a close friend of Subu. The youth had visited Sreejith’s shop to take a photocopy of his Aadhar card and Sreejith took an additional copy of it. He later used its details to take a new SIM card and handed it over to Jaseer, who in turn morphed the images of the woman and sent it to her family.
