Strict restrictions in city to prevent community spread
TrivandrumLife>> District administration and City Corporation are on high alert following the increase in number of cases in the district. A meeting held on Tuesday decided to impose 10-day restrictions on shop and establishments in the city. Shops selling essential items should function only on alternate days. Malls and supermarkets are allowed to function only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while vegetable shops can function on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. This was taken at a meeting convened by Mayor K Sreekumar.
Though the authorities are yet to declare possibility of a community spread, the number of cases with unknown source of infection are increasing in the city. Latest case of an autodriver in Manacaud and staff of Medical college hospital have raised concerns. If more cases come up, authorities will be forced to introduce lockdown in the city.
A meeting chaired by Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran on Monday had decided to limit the number of shops operating in crowded areas like Chalai and Palayam. Only 50 % of shops will be allowed to open a given day and it will be allowed to open only on alternate days. Shop owners will have to provide facilities for hand washing in front of their shops. Entry to public places like markets will be restricted.
There are around 13 cases in the city with unknown source of infection, which hints to possibility of community spread.
Two health workers from Medical College hospital got infected with Covid 19 through contacts. Apart from a Kodunganoor-based nursing assistant who was tested positive last week, a 55-year-old security guard was tested positive on Monday. In both cases, the health workers ignored their symptoms. The father and husband of the nursing assistant had got infected from her. The security guard too has interacted with a lot of people during and after his duty hours.
The long contact list of the driver of the auto KL – 01- BJ 4836 too is puzzling the health workers. Kalady junction, Attukal, Manacaud junction, Chiramukku-Kalady road and Iranimuttam were declared as containment zones following the confirmation of the results of the auto driver. His 18-year-old daughter too has been tested positive.
