TrivandrumLife>> More than 500 persons in Thiruvananthapuram have lost lives to Covid so far. With the five deaths reported on Tuesday, official number of deaths has reached 504, making the district highest in the fatalities related to Covid 19.
Ernakulam, which recorded the second highest number of Covid deaths, has recorded around 190 deaths. Case fatality ratio in the district – 0.75 – too is higher than all other districts.
While the official figure has crossed 500 mark, the unofficial number of deaths recorded by health volunteers has crossed over 570.
Of the 27 deaths reported on Tuesday, five are from Thiruvananthapuram. Death of Kottappuram-native Sukumaran, 85, Sastamangalam-native Radhakrishnan Nair, 83, Anayara-native Ammukutty, 78, Kallattumukku-native Kulsubeevi, 55 and Nemom-native Rasheeda, 43 were confirmed as Covid deaths on Tuesday. Majority of persons who died due to Covid had various comorbidities.
Death of Pothencode native Abdul Azeez, 68, was the first to record in the district in March. Vice Chairperson of the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board P Biju and general secretary of the National Fishworkers’ Forum (NFF) T Peter were some of the prominent personalities who succumbed to Covid 19 in the district.
Though the district recorded highest number of deaths, number of active cases are declining. After recording the highest number of active cases for months, the district is in sixth position now in terms of active cases. Districts such as Ernakulam, Trissur, Alappuzha, Kozhikode and Malappuram has more active cases than Thiruvananthapuram.
