Trivandrum Road Development Projects: Planning For The Future

Trivandrum Road ProjectsThe ongoing road development projects undertaken by TRDCL (Trivandrum road Development Company Ltd) is all set to culminate the coming year. Works are fast progressing on the residual length of the 42odd km of roads taken up for expansion and come 2010 the city will host a road network it could well boast about.

TRDCL works began in 2004, with initial plans to complete the project within 3 years. But the pestilential lags with the land acquisition and related litigation dragged the project into troubled waters. However the works are well into the final laps and the current cumbersomeness experienced on our roads will soon be a thing of the past.

Out of the 42km roads being planned under TRDCL approx. 25 km will be 4/6 lane avenues. Another81 km of city roads, including 30km of 4-lane avenues are planned to be taken up under KSUDP (Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project). Details below. Source: KSUDP Trivandrum Road Projects pdf

Add on the 22km of Kazhakkutam- Kovalam Bypass, all set for expansion under NHDP (National Highway Development Project) and the city will have a network of wide interconnected road-systems which will solve the traffic glitches to a great extent. With a plethora of mega-projects like Vizhinjam Container Terminal, Technopark expansion and Technocity under various stages of development, Trivandrum is well on a race to put the necessary infrastructure in place.

Well all the plans are fine. But the way it being carried by our people.. That’s what makes the difference, how much time all these will take and with how much precision..

A lot of authorities – CRIP, TRDCL, KSTP… our own old PWD.. New companies.. New new names.. a lot of officials.. Who all eats??

    Let’s hope for the good.
