The Francophonie Day By Alliance Française
After a thrilling musical concert last week (BBC Sound System : High Voltage Music) Alliance Française de Trivandrum is back with another cultural event. This time, it is to celebrate the Francophonie Day which is an annual event celebrated in 56 French speaking countries all over the world.

“Are you an excellent / excellent English speaker ? Then you are certainly /certainement a French speaker too. Don’t be surprised / surpris because you are not an exception / exception. In every domain / domaine, a part / partie of the English vocabulary / vocabulaire is inevitably / inévitablement French : from government / gouvernement and art / art to literature / literature and agriculture / agriculture, more than thirty percent of all English words are derived / dérivésdirectly / directement from French. So all the Anglophone / anglophones who have never learned French already knows thousands of French words.
The presence / présence of French words in English has its historical /historiques ‘raisons d’être’. During / Durant the Norman period / période in England, about 10 000 French words were adopted / adoptés into English, some three-fourths of which are still in use / usage at present / présent. Moreover; in the course / cours of time, the English language / langue has picked up a great number / nombre of words and expressions / expressions from French. Most of these words have conserved / conservé their French origin / origine which is why an English speaker senses / sent a certain / certain inexplicable / inxeplicable ‘je ne sais quoi’ when s/he come across many English words and expressions /expressions. As we know, both the languages / langues share a common /commun latin / latin and saxon / saxon heritage / héritage.”
TRANSPARENTS WORDS presents / présente a collection / collection of common / communs words, also calls transparents / transparents words, in selected /selectionnés domains / domaines, between English and French. This book is an homage / hommage to all those who accept / acceptent this common / communhertiage / héritage of both languages / langues which reinforces / renforce the mutual / mutuelle comprehension / compréhension.
