Onam Celebrations 2010 in Trivandrum

This is primarily due to the Food fest, Trade fair and mini-amusement park that will be set up in and around Palace premises. Onam, is the most celebrated days in Trivandrum as with the rest of Kerala. But for Trivandrum, it’s special. This years Onam Week Celebrations will commence on August 22nd 2010. Inaugural function is to be held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium with a high chance of none other than Kamal Hassan to be the chief guest. Major venues for the celebrations will be Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Kanakakkunne Palace, Poojappura Maidanam, Theerthapada Mandapam, Sreevarahom, Akkulam, VJT Hall, Shanghumugham, Neyyar Dam, Aruvikkara and Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan. Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium will be the main hub of events with stage shows by big guns every day. Poojappura Maidanam will be having a series of Ganamela with prominent singers. Another major attraction in the city for the week will be the ‘light show’, or “Light kanas” which is nothing but illuminated trees and walk ways. Simple it may sound, but the beauty it gives to the royal avenues is majestic and often traffic is diverted off from LMS to Vellayambalam to make way for the people to walk and enjoy the beauty. People as far from Nagercoil and Kollam will come to the city for this annual event.

The grand finale of the events will be on August 28th 2010 with a massive colorful Pageantry from Kaudiar to Eastfort. Close to 80 Floats will be participating in the Pageantry to which there will be prizes for the best 3. This event is a must watch if you are in Trivandrum during these days.
