Nishagandhi Festival – 2010

Nishagandhi Fest - TrivandrumAnother bright cultural festival is happening in Trivandrum. This time it is Nishagandhi Fest – an annual event filled with dance and music, marking the beginning of another culture rich year for Trivandrum. The festival started on January 20, 2010 and will spread joy to the culture lovers till January 26, 2010.

Dance forms like Kathak and  Mohiniyattam are to be played in Nishagandhi open auditorium and Kathakali in Kanakakkunne Palace. Musical performances  including Carnatic and Jugalbandhi will be held in open air auditorium. A craft show and food festival featuring the best from Mascot, Chaitram, New Mubarak, Regency and Jaggus is going on along with the cultural events at Sooryakanthi ground. A tribal festival is also arranged along with this. Craft show, food festival and Tribal show are hosted by Grand K erala Shopping Festival. Kathak and music programmes sponsored by ICCR too will be held at Sooryakanthi, in addition to ganamela.

Crafts of Kerala

With a rich heritage of arts and crafts, Kerala offers several interesting mementos. Sooryakanthi will feature a unique Crafts Mela that will exhibit souvenirs made of bamboo, cane, clay, coconut products etc., as part of a Kerala Tourism endeavour to preserve and enhance the traditional craft sector of the State. There will be a sale of the products on all seven days.

Food festFrom spicy Chettinadu delights to a sumptuous Keralan spread, from exotic Mughalai tidbits to filling Punjabi fare, food lovers will be able to indulge in a week-long gastronomical voyage at the Food Festival organised in connection with the dance and music programme.
Tribal fest

Showcasing the unique tribal way of life will be this Fest that will open up a new world for you. From tribal crafts to cuisine, from art forms to tribal medicines, the Tribal Fest will be a one-of-its-kind platform to know the tribal community better.

Entry is restricted through free passes. Seats can be reserved online. The bookings can be made even three days before the performance. Those who reserve the seats should come to the venue with the computer printout.
