IAWRT Asian Women’s Film Festival
Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the Embassy of France in India and Kerala Chalachitra Academy are organising IAWRT Asian Women’s Film Festival ,which is exclusively dedicated to women filmmakers, on 13 , 14 March at Kalabhavan theatre on the occasion of International Women’s day. The International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT )is also an associate in this celebration of the creative vision of women film makers. It features an awesome package of 25 short films directed by some of the most outstanding women directors in Asia.
It showcases short films covering a range of genres and expressive styles which explore and reflect how women filmmakers negotiate, resist or document political,social, cultural, environmental, educational or economic issues. The festival offers a space for dialogue and debate, enriched with inputs from various filmmakers and media practitioners. The two day festival from 10.00am – 8.30pm provides a rich fare of documentaries, animation and short films and explores a wide range of topics from purpose of art to human trafficking.
There is also a separate session dedicated to the new generation Malayalam women filmmakers. The latest films from these inspired directors- Charulathayude Baaki by Sangeetha Padmanabhan , Pandibhojanam by Sreebala K Menon, Kelkannundo by Geethu Mohandas ,Waiting Women by Anjali Menon , Akkam by J. Geetha , Chattalmazha by Ahsam , Game by Asha Joseph are being screened in this special session for Malayalam.
An Open Forum is also organised alongside the festival which will be a platform to discuss thenew language of filmmaking, which reflects, explores a new aesthetic and politics of filmmaking . It will be attended by the well known French writer Dominique Hoeltgen , Jai chandiram[IAWRT], Filmmakers Geethu Mohandas, Sangeetha Padmanabhan , Sreebala K Menon, , Anjali Menon , J. Geetha , Ahsam and Asha Joseph.
Dominique Hoeltgen, based in Paris, will speak about her latest work ‘India, a Revolution by Women’ which paint a portrait of India on move: focussing on the changes brought about by women.
