THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cricket Association has decided to establish an international cricket stadium in Thiruvananthapuram with the cooperation of the State Government and the Capital Development Forum. Announcing this and other decisions taken at the day-long meeting of the KCA’s Central Council meeting here on Sunday, the KCA president, S. Karunakaran Nair said two possible locations to establish the stadium, with all modern amenities, have been identified and a proposal to get the required land on a long-term lease would be submitted to the Government soon. The identified sites were located in Kazhakoottam and Kudapanakkunnu, near to the proposed Collectorate.

Editors Note: This is not an isolated case. More such incidents are compiled and posted here: The Hijacked City. Being a Trivandrum lover, we are not against the development in any other cities. But why take away the projects planned for Trivandrum?

We will have to take this up with the Sports Minister Mr. M. Vijaya Kumar and our MP Mr. Shahsi Tharoor.

Let Cochin have a stadium. Trivandrum also can have one, as planned.

Let us start some concrete action.

    Hi Mr.Aaron

I value your opinion, but to have two cricket stadiums to be built by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) is like a dream that will never take off. It has been ages since the cricket association have formed in Kerala and never had this body shown consummation or interest in building a stadium of its own. Hence thinking of building stadiums at both the cities simultaneously isn’t practical. BCCI has to also release funds.

The decision taken by the governing council of the KCA shouldn’t be taken lightly primarily because there could be more reason to it than of petty regionalism prima facie. The decision to shift well also be to facilitate corruption pertaining to the purchase of the land for the stadium.

There are also ample reasons to think on the lines of corruption. News reports( http://www.thehindu.com/2009/06/17/stories) say that KCA has bought 23 acres of land near the Vembanad lake at Edakochi and claims to have dispensed an amount of Rs. 10 crores towards the advance. If the advance is alone to the tune of 10 crore one can imagine the cost of the land to be some kind of a staggering amount(TC Mathew, seceratary, KCA has inadvertently hinted that the amount could be between 35 crore and 50 crores). Such a huge amount foe a marshy land!!. The rate per acre at places with better terrain at edakochi costs only 10 times less than the above amount.

Considering all the above facts the motive behind the shift is evident. Already there is a vigilance case pending on TC Mathew on corruption(http://www.samachaar.in/kerala/)

Trivandrum should get the stadium at any cost so that we should feel that we have fought against corruption.

Corruption is another issue altogether. It has to be checked. Trivandrum has to get the stadium at any cost. The only two persons who can intervene in this matter are Mr. M. Vijaya Kumar and Mr. Shashi Tharoor.

as if Cochin got all their facilities by its merit. Bollocks

From olden times, for something to happen in Cochin, some Thrissur guys has to come and set up there.

(Starting from Cochin Kings, who are from Shaktan Thampuran’s/Kodungaloor lineage to Panampilly Menon to the modern day business people like Chittilapilly, Alukkas, Mohammedali, Yousaffali etc.)

We should never tell this… KCA is getting funds to build stadium only because of IPL Kochi team… And since the team is IPL Kochi, the stadium should actually be in the home city of the IPL team which is Kochi.. I do not know why you bring in these arguments for this… Look at all other states – all have IPL team based on their main city and all are happy with that… Only when it comes to Kerala people from TVM does not like IPL team being called as IPL Kochi team but want to call it as IPL Kerala team…. If you look at the loses of Kochi had to suffer to TVM these are nothing… That is in spite of clsoe of half of Kerala Govt’s revenue coming from Kochi belt… Basically it is money from Kochi-Kottayam-Thrissur belt and Kozhikkode belt which feeds the ministers and corrupt govt officials in TVM… And all these crap people usually takes all these projects to TVM … So lets not to get into regionalism and support IPL Kochi team with needed stadiums at needed locations ….

Your comments clearly shows your ignorance in this matter. The decision to build a cricket stadium at Trivandrum was taken by the KCA in 2006 when Mr.S.K. Nair was the secretary, subsequently the Kerala govt provided a land at Kudapanakunnu in Trivandrum and the formalities were done. The very next year when TC Mathew took over the position of secretary in the KCA and the governing council of the KCA took a surprise decision to drop Trivandrum and opt for Edakochi. At that time the concept of IPL was not even thought of and Kochi IPL team which was formed in early 2010 obviously was never in picture. There could be more reason to it than of petty regionalism prima facie. The decision to shift well also be to facilitate corruption pertaining to the purchase of the land for the stadium.

There are also ample reasons to think on the lines of corruption. Nobody here care a damn on the name of the IPL team; it doesn’t matter whether the name is Kochi or Kathrikadavu or Karrakkamuri…who cares? It has be proven time and again that IPL was/is run by a bunch of frauds including the likes of Lalit Modi and Sharad Pawar, who’s sole intention is to fatten their pockets! As far as Kochi IPL team is concerned, the money from your enthusiasm and craziness will pocketed by some random Gujjus! Its a pity that people talk of IPL as the best thing happened to India after independence.

You talk about Kerala’s revenue; half of which is coming from Kochi and some “belt” of Kottayam,Trichur & Kozhikode. This is more of a creativity than fact? what are the figures? Kochi is the industrial hub of Kerala, agreed, but Economic Review in 2008 show that Ernakulam district contributed only about 14% of Kerala’s GDP while Trivandrum contributed about 12%.Thanks to Technopark which accounted for 75% of the State’s IT exports! Kochi accounting for 50% of Kerala’s revenue is just a hearsay that has been passed on by guys who don’t have the spine to gather authentic information. why drag the small towns like Trichur and Kottayam whose population is not even touching 2.5 lakhs and Kozhikode whose population is just close to 4.2 lakhs!they dont even contribute a double fig % to Kerala’s GDP.
